A Perfect Plan For Your Life

One of my favourite verses in the Bible is found in the book of Romans. In verse 2, it reads:

“Don’t copy the behaviour and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” – Romans 12:2 (NLT)

There’s a lot in this verse. A series of sermons can be preached on this verse alone. In this post, however, I want to focus on the latter part of the verse; specifically, the very last word in the verse: Perfect.

“… you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good, and pleasing and perfect.”

God’s will (plan) for us is perfect.

Let that sink in.

In studying this, I went back to the dictionary to find out the meaning of “Perfect”. It means “entirely without fault or defect: Flawless.”

Based on this definition, can you confidently say you have a perfect plan for your life? I’ll help you answer that; No, you can’t. No matter how grand or specific the plan, none of us have a “perfect” plan for our lives.

Specificity is not tantamount to perfection. Even if you planned every second of every day (which you can’t), you still couldn’t put a perfect plan together for your life.

We find out, however, that there is a prefect plan for our lives. God knows it. God created it. It’s a plan without flaws. That’s incredible news.

God’s plan for your life is perfect. This doesn’t mean it’s without its challenges, but despite those challenges, there is perfect plan. A complete plan. A plan without flaws.

The verse tells us that we can know this plan as we renew our minds. What this simply means is that we stop thinking one way, and start thinking another way.

We must stop thinking the way the world does, and start thinking the way God does. Galatians 5:19-22 contrasts the mindset of the world (flesh) vs the Word (God).

Psalms 37:4 tells us that when we delight ourselves in the Lord, He will give us the desires of your hearts. What this means is that when you spend quality time with God, enjoying His presence and relationship, you will begin to desire things that God has put in your heart. He gives you what to desire, and this leads to walking in alignment with God’s perfect plan for your life.

The next time you’re writing down life goals or milestones, take a few minutes to invite God into the planning. Ask Him to inspire your thoughts and ask Him to reveal His plans to you. Surrender your own plans for your life and take up His plans for your life.

Why? Because His plans for you are perfect.
