Therefore, my beloved, run [keep far, far away] from [any sort of] idolatry [and that includes loving anything more than God, or participating in anything that leads to sin and enslaves the soul].
1 Corinthians 10:14 AMP
Idolatry, as defined in this scripture above, is loving anything more than God. Be it a good or bad thing. When you have this mind, you might notice how easy it is to subconsciously set up idols in our lives.
This isn’t something premeditated or done consciously. You don’t say “I will set up this idol”, but rather, it happens in a subtle manner when we neglect the most important person in our lives, God. We may claim God is our first priority, but our actions may speak differently.
Personally, I’ve noticed a few idols I set up in the past. Be it work, or physical training. I noticed the time I’d usually schedule to spend with God would be spent in the gym, or doing something else.
Things like exercising are good (and highly recommended), but I had prioritized these things over God. It wasn’t a decision I made intentionally, but it was simply based on how I spent my time. I noticed I hadn’t been spending enough time with God and was busy with everything else, which says He’s not as important as these other things. Our choices reflect our priorities.
It’s always good to check ourselves and make sure we haven’t set up any idols in our lives. These are things, people or activities that have taken God’s place.
That’s one of the reasons why we fellowship with God daily. He sheds light on these areas that we can’t see.
Choose today to make God your first priority; not just in word, but in action.
