People often say “I’m waiting for the right time to start my relationship with God”. There’s a misconception that there is a “right time”, perhaps when you have gotten rid of all your sins or when you are prepared in body, soul and spirit, but the truth is, there is no “right time” in the future. The right time is now.
“One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers—Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew—throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” And they left their nets at once and followed him. A little farther up the shore he saw two other brothers, James and John, sitting in a boat with their father, Zebedee, repairing their nets. And he called them to come, too. They immediately followed him, leaving the boat and their father behind.” – Matthew 4: 18-22 (NLT)
When Jesus called His disciples, they didn’t have to prepare themselves, they simply left what they had been doing and followed Him. He didn’t require that they “prepare themselves” or “cleanse” themselves; this is because He knew they would be cleansed, made whole & purified by His Word (John 15:3) and by spending time with Him.
I know there might be the concern of “leaving everything behind” or “bringing your sins with you”. The truth is, God is calling you and all your baggage because He’s the one that helps you with the cleansing.
God, our Father, is the one who transforms us and cleanses us, so we don’t need to be “clean” before embracing Him. He’s the one that does the cleansing when we have a relationship with Him, and that process can start this very minute.
The ONLY thing you have to do is to say Yes. “Yes, Jesus. I accept You into my life as my Lord and savior. I want to start this relationship with You today. I confess all my sins and I need You to transform me from today. In Jesus name, Amen”
It’s also important to know that there’s nothing you can do (or have done) that can separate you from the love of God (Romans 8:39). So forget about your “sins” from the past or the idea that you’re “too far gone” to be redeemed. There’s no such thing. Jesus washed it all away on the cross.
As you start your relationship with God today, focus on His goodness, not on your flaws, for He is the one who makes us clean.
As you start your relationship, speak to a trusted friend or anyone who is also building their relationship with God for guidance. Find a local church and join others who are on the same journey as you are now on.
